Vancouver, the #1 City in the World for Seniors

Oct 5th, 2010 | By James E Becker | Category: Senior Travel

I recall writing a senior travel blog a while back that featured the best cities in the entire world in which to live.  Vancouver came out on top on several surveys.  I wanted to know why.  Now I can share why with you.  Here is what I discovered and now I want to visit Vancouver too.

Vancouver’s population was a little over 500,000 in 2004; Greater Vancouver’s estimated total population for 2004 is 2.1 million, 50.8% of BC’s population of 4.2 million. Surrounded by water on three sides and nestled alongside the Coast Mountain Range, Vancouver is the largest city in the province of British Columbia with over half a million residents and one of the mildest climates in Canada. Home to spectacular natural scenery and a bustling metropolitan core, Vancouver was Host City to the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.

Whether just relaxing in a park or bike riding around the seawall, there is always something to do in Vancouver.

Another called Inside Vancouver Blog has many reasons to take in this city.

Of course you will be in BC (British Columbia) when you visit Vancouver.  How many of Canada’s provinces can you name?  Better yet, can you name them off from west to east?  I always leave one out somehow.   Here is a map to refresh your memory.  This site provides a nice overview of BC featuring Vancouver.  Visiting BC is one of the best links that I found as it provides everything from B & Bs, to the best BC restaurants.  eHow tells seniors How to Visit Vancouver.

It is a very unique place with many diversions. Helpful tips here will guide when planning a getaway to Vancouver.  Do you like pink? Then check out this site. Vancouver has something for everyone! There’s so much to do and see – it’s just a matter of choosing.

Lastly, here are some good sites to assist your travel planning on the Internet:

  • About Vancouver has it all together for the senior tourist.  Here you will find everything you need to better understand where the city is located, its weather, politics, geography and more.
  • TripAdvisor has tons of valid information on hotels, rentals, flights, deals, Things to Do, videos, maps and more.
  • Check out this colorful map.
  • Ever heard this one?… “I asked about robins and they gave me an encylopedia on birds”… well, this site has all the city information you could possibly ask for anywhere.
  • Yahoo offers trip plans, videos, deals, rentals, things to do, hotels and more.  Enjoy BC.     jeb
