SENIORS VISIT GLENWOOD SPRINGS

Mar 23rd, 2012 | By James E Becker | Category: Senior Travel

Wanna have some senior fun? Last year, Glenwood Springs, Colorado was rated the Most Fun City by Rand McNally, the publishing house that produces the popular road map to America. So let’s check Glenwood Springs out to see why folks are having fun out there.  A recent tourist wrote “Glenwood Springs is a wonderful place. Lots to see and do.”

The Glenwood Caverns, Hot Springs Pool and Vapor Caves just begin to scratch the surface. Come in on Amtrak — the views are stunning! Another tourist commented… “Great town, so much to do, and the nicest people!” I liked the part about the people… they make all the difference.

Senior travelers will want to check out the historic Hotel Coronado called “La Grande Dame of the Rockies.” The Frontier Historical Museum has a mission statement that reads…”Serving as the Living Legacy of our Local Life.”  Buffalo Bill was in Glenwood Springs shortly before his death and Doc Holliday is buried there.

This quaint mountain town, is conveniently located on I-70 between Vail and Aspen, easily accessible from both Grand Junction and Denver.  Glenwood Springs is also home to one of the campuses in the Colorado Mountain College system.

The Springs Attract Seniors

And the springs! Yes. This is Nature’s source of happiness. “The Grand Spring,” as it was known, is a timeless natural wonder discovered by the ancient Ute Indian culture. For thousands of years this mineral-rich water has created legends of healing, mountain adventure, and relaxation. That’s reason enough for me to come and soak up the body a bit before soaking up the local culture.

They say that Glenwood Springs has the World’s Largest Hot Spring Pool. Here you will understand the appeal that this mountain destination has earned for over a century. Whether you come to cure your ailments or warm your spirit, everyone sleeps better with complimentary hot spring soaking and swimming included with each night’s stay.

The Glenwood Springs travel guide invites seniors to fish, take a hike, lounge around the pool, kayak and to explore the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and take the Iron Mountain Tramway. Whitewater Park is another big draw for fun. Do bring a couple of bathing suits as you will probably be in the pool several times.  There has to be a plethora of other reasons this city was named #1 for fun besides the hot springs, so come and find out for yourself.  jeb
