Senior Travel to Brazil, Part 2

Mar 7th, 2011 | By James E Becker | Category: Senior Travel

Brazil is a very big country, so we’re going to take several posts to talk about why senior citizens will want to travel to Brazil to enjoy its beauty.  Brazil is the largest country in South America. It is the world’s fifth largest country.  It is the only Portuguese-speaking country in the Americas.

The etymology of Brazil remains unclear. Traditionally, the word “Brazil” come from the brazilwood, a timber tree whose many sailors traded from Brazilian regions to Europe in the 15th century. And languages…Portuguese and 180 indigenous languages.  Its larger and more famous attractions are the Amazon and the Pantanal, the pair hosting some of the greatest biodiversity on the planet. 75% of the tourists who seek Brazil as their vacation destination do so first of all because of the natural beauty. But once they arrive, they find such hospitality that they soon become enchanted with the mixture of colors, races and cultures of the people as well. But there is a very special attraction that you only discover when you go there: the Brazilian people. Much beyond the breathtaking scenery, the way these people live surprises everyone with its simplicity, willingness, hope, hospitality and happiness.

Rio, known as the cidade maravilhosa (marvelous city), is exhilarating. Flanked by gorgeous mountains, white-sand beaches and verdant rainforests fronting deep blue sea, Rio occupies one of the most spectacular settings of any metropolis in the world. From the world-famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema to the tops of scenic outlooks of Corcovado and Pão de Açúcar to the dance halls, bars and open-air cafes that proliferate the city, cariocas live for the moment without a care in the world. This idea of paradise has enchanted visitors for centuries, and there are dozens of ways to be seduced. Here are two neat videos: Brazil, a lifestyle – Tourism Video and another, Welcome to Brazil.
