Resorts for Senior Citizens

There are many outstanding resorts that cater to seniors all over the world.  I have stayed in a few with my wife, relatives or friends. I wish to share here with seniors travelers some that stand out in my mind and in my research. I will put in a plug for the Dominican Republic as well as the Yucatan Peninsula. There is a plethora of superior resorts, many of which are all-inclusive. If you are ready for a vacation at a resort where you will not be disappointed…read on.

Iberostar Resorts

You may already know of Iberostar… world-class resorts and most often, on opulent beaches. Since its beginnings in Spain’s Balearic Islands, Iberostar Hotels has become one of the most deluxe chains in the world.  With four- and five-star resorts nestled along some of the most spectacular beaches known to man, Iberostar caters to its senior
customers’ every desire. Whether you seek romance or sophistication, each hotel offers the highest quality of everything-from gourmet dining to luxuriating spas to lively entertainment.

My daughter and her husband have vacationed at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro of the Dominican Republic, an adults-only resort with all-inclusive amenities. As I write this blog, they are celebrating their anniversary at
the RIU Palace Punta Cana that is also all-inclusive and for adults only.  The extraordinary white sands and turquoise water at Playa Bavaro pair perfectly with top-of-the-line luxury and service at the Iberostar Grand
Bavaro.

Iberostar has destinations all over the world. If you have ever vacationed at an all-inclusive resort, then you know how neat it is not to have to dig into your wallet for anything once you are on site. Guest rooms are spacious suites with deluxe details such as a hydro-massage tub and LCD television. Dine at six on-site restaurants, or
join in tennis, yoga, spinning class or swimming. Additional activities (fees apply) include catamaran sailing, scuba and golf. Around-the-clock butler service adds a final touch. Great choices for dining, from Italian cuisine at
La Tentazione and Japanese at Hashira to the wide variety of dishes at Bella Vista Buffet Restaurant, Iberostar satisfies every craving.

Sandals – Love in luxury Caribbean retreats set the gold-star standard for luxurious, all-inclusive senior couples resorts. Find sumptuous suites, British-trained butlers, up to 11 unique restaurants per resort, pampering
relaxation at Red Lane Spas, and free on-site golf at Jamaica and St. Lucia resorts.  Secrets – “Unlimited Luxury” for adults…the big secret here is “Unlimited Luxury”– an opportunity for couples to wrap themselves in a
rich, sensual experience. Pristine Caribbean beaches, sparkling pools, gourmet cuisine and the all-inclusive, 24-hour service makes sure seniors want for nothing, except perhaps a longer vacation.  Excellence – Pampering romantics These luxurious all-inclusive resorts surpass their moniker, with enormous pools, fine restaurants, cooking
lessons, snorkeling, tennis and more. Guests at the Mexico locations can golf at the Playa Mujeres course, designed by Greg Norman. Punta Cana features horseback riding and a private casino. All resorts promise bliss
to senior vacationers.

When Should Seniors Head For Mexico

Blessed with bountiful sunshine, Mexico attracts the most senior travelers between late December and Easter, traditionally the high season, while the rest of the year is low season. Expect prices to be higher during the holidays and especially during Spring Break, when American co-eds blow off steam south of the border at any of the
sprawling beach resorts. Be on watch during hurricane season — typically June through October — especially if you’re headed to the Yucatan Peninsula. Summers are especially hot and humid, so dress appropriately
if you’re planning to be outdoors.

All along the Riviera Maya you will find superior accommodations such as the Sun Palace, the Moon Palace , the Playacar Palace at Playa del Carmen, the Xpu-Ha Palace on the Riviera Maya that is blanketed by the lush jungle of the Riviera Maya. This ecological resort offers guests bungalow style accommodations in spectacular natural
surroundings. Senior guests enjoy kayaking or snorkeling at the immaculate estuary, plus ecological tours and unlimited select tours to nearby interesting sites. Enjoy your resort wherever you choose to vacation. We enjoyed snorkeling through a huge tunnel with a moving river at the Xpu-Ha Palace. jeb
