Home-Swapping Holidays for Seniors

Dec 15th, 2009 | By James E Becker | Category: Senior Travel

A very exciting vacation possibility today is a home swap.  The top five most popular destinations today are the USA, France, Australia, Canada and England.  The top for Latin America are Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Argentina and Chile.

Home swapping means just that… you swap time in your home for time in someone else’s.  This is especially helpful if you want to spend a few weeks (month?) abroad and don’t have the resources to pay a huge hotel bill.  Most home swapping sites provide pictures and a lot of detail that help in decision making.  Security concerns are also addressed, although you always need to keep in mind the need to secure anything valuable in your home that you don’t want others to be able to access.

There are numerous sites that provide good information about home swapping.  One of the more useful Internet resources for house swapping is found on AARP.  They make Home Swapping easy in just five steps.  If you read Spanish take a look at AARP’s Segunda Juventud.  Do a little dreaming and check out some of these possibilities at Home for Exchange or Marketplace for Home Exchange WorldwideDigsville  also provides a listing of available home swapping sites.

Be sure to check with friends or acquaintances who have had experience with home swapping; their advice may be invaluable.
