Best Vacation Islands for Senior Travel

Apr 12th, 2011 | By | Category: Senior Travel

My consistent visitors know how much I enjoy the 10-Best-List for any senior citizen travel opportunity.  So here is the ten best vacation islands that seniors will enjoy.

Enjoy a vacation backpacking through the mountains of Europe or lounging on a deserted Caribbean beach without the endless search for accommodations. Seniors truly desiring to enjoy their vacations without the hassle are turning to timeshares to satisfy their lodging concerns. Here they are listed from the bottom to the top. If you have ever spent any time in Hawaii you will know why it is called “paradise.”

10. Bermuda, The Caribbean
I mean, hey, if it’s good enough for those people who make those shorts then it surely should be good enough for you! The golfing here is past excellent, that along with the beautiful beaches have made this island a hot spot for the Brits for the past long time now.

9. Madives, Indian Ocean
Although being strictly Islamic with all of the tourist limitations that imposes, the Maldives are nonetheless a tourist’s paradise. Unspoiled beaches, and the bragging rights of having been able to go to a country which nearly all people could not point out on a world map.

8. Phuket, Thailand
People talk about Mexico having nice beaches, but to that I question, yeah, but can you ride an elephant down them? Well here in Phuket you can, and let me tell you an elephant ride down one of the world’s more beautiful beaches is truly a unique experience. This is the place that is hard to pronounce but is a favorite among tourists to SE Asia.

7. Malta Island, Malta
7,000 years of fascinating history, and the sparkling Mediterranean, equals perfection. Malta is pure beauty, the scenery, the beaches, the cities, everything here is grand.

6. Santorini, Greece
Santorini is arguably the best place in the world to watch the sunset. And definitely a beautiful island on which to vacation on. Little towns line the edge of the island’s cliffs which make up the upper caldera of an ancient volcano. Also the island has black sand beaches, and red sand beaches, basically any color of sand that you want.

5. Iceland, Europe
Okay maybe it’s not fitting in with the whole tropical island theme, but Iceland is truly amazing. The scenery as well as the beauty of the people make this island worth vacationing on a thousand times over. My niece spent a year in the Air Force in Iceland and appreciated the many natural hot springs spas and magnificent scenery.

4. Bora Bora, French Polynesia
The name Bora Bora instantly brings one’s mind to conjure up vibrant images of beaches, and mountains, and well, topless natives. The natives however aren’t topless anymore, but everything else you’ve ever imagined is still there. This isn’t one of the world’s most popular honeymoon destinations for no reason. If you know some French you will get by a little better, if not invite me to go along as I speak good French.

3. Sicily, Italy
The city of Taormina alone is enough to justify Sicily’s position. A city built upon a mountaintop overlooking some of Europe’s more beautiful beaches just kilometres from the filming location of the godfather. Well all of those things add up to pure amazement.

2. Fraser Island, Australia
Tourists flock to Fraser Island to enjoy the natural beauty it offers, not necessarily its luxuries. Rental 4WD vehicles are available for visitors to explore the exotic rain forests where Australia’s wild dogs, dingoes, can be seen roaming around. Whale watching is another popular activity and whales can be commonly seen from the Indian Head Point cliffs in the north of the island.

1. Big Island, Hawaii
Black sand beaches, waterfalls, a rainforest, and a continuously erupting volcano! Who doesn’t want to vacation here? No worries about accommodation because there are many affordable private vacation rentals, hotels or condominiums.  Hawaii, my favorite place in the whole wide world, after Provence. jeb
