BEST SENIOR TRAVEL CLUBS

Senior Tourists Choose Travel Clubs

Traveling with folks your age can be very enjoyable provided you select a reputable tour.  With 37 million Americans 65 and older, travel groups geared to seniors are springing up everywhere.  Because older people have more time to travel, are living longer and spend more money on travel than other age groups, it’s understandable why senior travel clubs are flourishing.

Travel clubs offer everything from local day trips to traveling overseas. Whether you’re barely in your fifties and have a passion to explore remote African jungles, or in your eighties or older and want a less strenuous trip, senior travel clubs have a trip tailored just for you.

ElderTrav

ElderTrav is an information resource on senior alternative vacations as well as a listing of companies that offer senior adventure travel throughout the world.

Frommer’s Senior Travel Deals

Frommer’s is always a reliable source for planning vacations.  The guidebook gurus at Frommer’s have created a worthwhile website that’s ideal for senior travel groups. The website features special deals, articles about destinations to check out (and avoid), and forums about such topics as coping with long flights and the best tour companies for senior travel.

Groople

Groople was created when the then president of CheapTickets.com watched his wife agonize over planning a girlfriends’ getaway. The website seems perfect for senior travel groups, since it arranges flights, hotels, and ground transportation all over the States for groups of all sizes — as its website states, “whether your group is 3 or 103″. Trips range from golfing in Pebble Beach to sightseeing in New Orleans. Groople coordinates with more than 60,000 hotels and has preferred partnerships with airlines like Frontier and car rental agencies like Avis and Budget.

More and more seniors are traveling with their grandchildren and  Grandparents.com offers some great ideas and exciting possibilities for you and your grandkids.

SWT (Senior WomenTours)

In for something different? Mary Ann Zimmerman is president and founder of Senior Women’s Travel, SWT Tours and the newest division of her travel company, Hudson Valley Journeys. Senior Women’s Travel focuses on trips for the 50+ woman with a passion for travel. It was founded on the premise that “your travel days are not over.” Senior women — widowed, divorced, or with a mate who no longer wants to travel — should still be able to travel with zest, comfortably and safely, Ms. Zimmerman believes.

Consider a Senior Home Exchange

A super means to encounter a whole new environment is to consider a home swap with folks from all over the world.  This particular link is exclusively for the over 40 age group interested in Senior Home Exchange . Or, if you prefer, exchange hospitality vacations. You visit with them and, in return, they visit with you and doesn’t that sound neat?

Let me quiz your travel knowledge

Try these quizzes.  I did not do all that well myself, but have fun checking your own experiences and travel knowledge. Now that you are done with that, can you name what you find to be the top travel group organizations for seniors?  Even one or two maybe?

Travel seems to be a little more difficult than it was when we were younger. The tours and cruises that suited our previously active lifestyle might be just a little too jam-packed for our tastes now. The best solution is to find a travel tour specifically designed for mature adults more interested in enjoying an experience instead of adding as many stops to the itinerary as possible.

Ready to join a senior travel club? If so, here’s some good advice on how to proceed. Good luck and Bon Voyage! jeb
