I’d like to share Internet sites with you today that are specifically designed for Senior Citizen Travel.  Sometimes we want to plan a trip that doesn’t include people under 50.  These sites may help you decide if you’re considering that possibility.

ELDERTREKS is the world’s first adventure travel company designed exclusively for people 50 and over. Established in 1987, ElderTreks offers active, off-the-beaten-path, small-group adventures by both land and sea in over 100 countries.  ElderTreks offers wildlife and tribal safaris in Africa, active hiking trips to the Rockies, Himalayas and Andes, expeditions by icebreakers to the Arctic and Antarctic and cultural journeys throughout Asia, South America and much of the world.

ElderTrav is another Internet resource on senior alternative vacations; it also offers a listing of companies that offer senior adventure travel throughout the world.

Wired Seniors is a general web site of interest to seniors with a section on tours featuring “senior friendly” itineraries. Look under “Senior Search.”

Savvy Senior Travel by Rick Steves provides Skills and Tips to Help You Make the Most of Your Next Vacation to Europe.  Steves points out that “Many seniors are more energetic than their backpacker grandkids. But even for these folks, travel abroad is not without questions and concerns.”  Steves provides some great aids that can make your trip much more rewarding as he is one of the most experienced travelers I know.

1000Tips suggests several tips just for seniors, including packing items to give away to children or poor people on the street.  They further suggest that you Stay Out Of Jail as laws vary greatly from country. Be aware of regulations and laws before you go abroad. What may be a minor infraction in your own country could land you in jail or even facing the death penalty in a foreign jurisdiction.  The tips on travel to Russia are very good you will want to read these if you plan on going there.

Are you an experienced hiker?  Many seniors love hiking and may find this site interesting.  It is called Walking the World, and promotes adventure travel for people 50 and over. Adventure travel is a way of experiencing the world, not as a passive observer, but as an active participant. And walking, more than any other type of activity, allows you to experience first hand not only a country’s majestic natural areas, but its rich and varied human cultures as well. With Walking The World, you’ll be walking through small villages, meeting the local people, and sampling some of the world’s finest food and drink.  Walking The World was established in 1987 and is now the world’s leading adventure travel company for 50 plus individuals. A veteran traveler, the founder, Ward, has led adventure-seeking adults on exotic adventures in over 25 counties around the world and all across the United States. jeb
