Seniors: Letting People Know

The other day, quite innocently, I let someone know that she reminded me of a very talented and remarkable actress. It was spontaneous, uninvited, but quite sincere and free of motive. I just wanted to let her know that my perception of her was quite positive. Her response seemed to be one of being moved, complimented and maybe a bit embarrassed. But the deed was done and it was out there.

My sense is that letting people know is a good thing. Letting them know that they are special, deserving of notice, that others observe and appreciate them adds to their own self esteem. What’s wrong with that? It costs nothing, but minor effort, a little courage or audacity, and the willingness to take a small risk. The outcome likely produces an opening for a new acquaintance, the developing relationship of a new friend, the open door to other intersections when life’s
