New Orleans is making a comeback. Travel + Leisure included it in the top 10 US cities to visit since Hurricane Katrina demolished the city in August 2005. T+L’s World’s Best Awards named The Big Easy #7 in top cities in the US and Canada this year (2010).

The City That Care Forgot has worked hard to reestablish its tourism industry since Katrina. The August, 2010, issue of T+L lists all ten awards, and they can also be seen here.

New Orleans Official Tourism Website is ONE COOL WEBSITE with lots of music on a video. Don’t miss it, Seniors. Another is the Experience New Orleans URL that provides all the latest on hotels, restaurants, attractions, Mardi Gras and much more. Have you ever “sucked a crawfish tail”? You can say NO.

And of course a must visit includes Cafe Du Monde Beignets and Coffee. Take home some of that special coffee and enjoy a beignet or two on site.

And breakfast at BRENNANS at 417 Royal Street located one block toward the river just off of Bourbon Street is a must. I always said that it was the “Best $25 breakfast that I ever had”… and that was 25 years ago. Brennan’s scrumptious breakfast menu offers entree items from Crabmeat Omelette topped with Hollandaise Sauce to the nationally popular Eggs Hussarde, a Brennan’s original. They even included champagne with my eggs benedict and for breakfast! Hopefully I am making you a bit hungry and ready to cruise down Bourbon Street.

Here is a little French Quarter history: Did you know that La Nouvelle Orléans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville and established New Orleans as the capital of Louisiana and a fortress to control the wealth of the North American interior for the French. Reclaimed from a swamp and centered around the Palace d’ Armes — now Jackson Square — New Orleans was originaly confined to what is now called the French Quarter or Vieux Carré (Old Square).
