It isn’t too difficult to get one’s priorities straight. They have a way of edging and nudging their way into our daily things we have to do. Most of us find routine works and that addresses most of the issues that require attention each day. Without our priorities, things literally pile up and become much like the “hoarders” one can see on television shows. People without priorities often accumulate more demands asthan time or energy can possibly meet. Living with priorities means that one can do appropriate sorting of the demands on one’s life. Having met the priorities there is plenty of room and time for other less demanding responsibilities.
Pastimes are good things. They allow us to savor time

Some days seem to offer too many things to deal with at once for elders. Today is a good example. Following a month of dealing with what may have been a virus, I am discovering that it appears to be subsiding, just in time for the scheduled colonoscopy that was ordered while undergoing the discomfort of daily diarrhea. This lands on the same day as an eye appointment to correct lenses that seem to work better with a magnifying glass. Is this the way it is as we move into the seventh decade? Is this what we can expect in our senior citizen years? Is this the joy of growing older?
Why can’ t we schedule one thing at a time? Can’t the body recognize

The challenge for elders is increasingly one of trying to keep up with the demands and multiplied changes of day to day living. What with all the Ipods, Ipads, Android, IPhone, and numerous other emphases on the I, our contemporary world demands senior citizens keeping up like it never has before. There was once a time when life seemed to be met with relative ease. Keeping up with the technological wave of change for retirees is both a full time and notoriously confusing phenomenon. Those of us past 70 and retired are constantly met with new gimmicks, tech advancements and inventive means to be in touch with the rest of the world. For some, the question is, “do I really want all this access” to people and ideas that continue to flood over us?
Having grown up in the eras of tape recorders and

They started talking the other day…to me…about moving. I am 68 and the thought of moving does some very uncomfortable things to my innards. Dad is 94 and his wife, our second mom, is 82 and they are talking about moving half way across the country. I try to remember what I’ve learned from my [...]

AARP has again partnered with New York Life Insurance and Annuity Corporation to offer a fixed annuity, with an interest rate guaranteed for five years. The program is available to AARP members ages 50-85 and spouses ages 45-85. Fixed annuities are just that: a legal agreement that the insurance company will pay the senior citizen [...]

Many of us seniors watch our adult children and their workout programs. That generation is heavy in to exercising because of their desire for a healthy life. Some of us elders have been told by our physician that we also need to exercise to improve the quality of our lives. For some, physical exercise is [...]

Most veterans understand and make good use of the gamut of medical care offered by the Veterans Administration; health care for vets is a really good example of socialized medicine for this group of people, and the program works very well. It is the equivalent of Medicare for non-vets. In addition, many elderly people who [...]

One of my most admired friends follows the 12 Step Program religiously. His life’s orientation centers around it. There is good reason. He has known the hardship and adversity of alcoholism and drug abuse. The deadening influence of both either teach you to respect the 12 Steps or the disease will finally kill you. He knows that from candid experience. Without embarrassment he tells the story. Every time he does his own resolve to live a better life becomes stronger. If you ever have the chance to hear him, you will be inspired, moved and transformed in your own ways.
Because of my friend, I have developed some rules or steps of my own. I call them Twelve Reasons to Care. These are they:
* Care about others more than you do yourself.

Quite a long title for this site: Senior Citizen Tours in India – Senior Citizen Tours India, Senior Citizen Vacations Rajasthan, Senior Citizen Holiday Trips South India, Senior Citizen Tours in North India. Be ready for some agreeable accompanying music. I guess in India they just like long titles. They also seem to know how [...]

Two of the illnesses that strike older persons are homesickness and loneliness. Seniors often choose to sustain two home bases. Those who live in the midwest, where winters can be so severe, often scout out and locate a second home in a more hospitable winter climate. They may own a second home, lease, or connect by means of having a motor home. For those who are based in second homes, such an arrangement can contribute to homesickness and loneliness. Having two homes usually means having a personality that can easily adjust to living in and enjoying two environments. Some folk do this readily. Others find it a challenge.
For me and my house, I find the occasional temptation to be “back home,” wherever and however I identify that. We enjoy a large home in one place and a rental condo in another. The former, however, is really home. The secondary location is a get away. For persons whose tendency to quickly assimilate in the secondary location, this is no real challenge. For those who enjoy nesting somewhat more, it may become
