Open Enrollment Dates Change for 2012

Every year there is an Open Enrollment Period in which Medicare beneficiaries can switch to a different plan.  If you want to change your Medicare coverage for 2012, you need to be aware the enrollment period has changed.  Instead of November 15 to December 31, this year the Medicare enrollment period begins October 15 and ends December 7.

This is commonly known as the open enrollment period. During this time, you can switch to another Part D prescription drug plan (PDP) or to another Medicare plan, including Medicare Advantage to traditional Medicare and vice versa.

The Medicare website online provides invaluable resources for determining the best plan for you and your unique circumstances.  Or if you are not comfortable using the Internet for obtaining information, you can call 1-800-633-4227.

Those of you receiving special help with Part D (Prescription Drug Plan) need also to remember you can switch plans any time during the year.  You can do this online or at the telephone number just cited.

Be sure to make a note on your calendar if you want to make a change for 2012.  The website offers a Medicare Plan Finder, which is a comparative analysis of available plans that helps you make a decision about the best plan for your circumstances.

If you are ever in doubt and want to talk to a human being, just dial 1-800-633-4227.
