Seniors: Six Daily Signs to Watch For

Oct 29th, 2010 | By Dr Jerry D Elrod | Category: Senior Moments Blog

Enabling full and emotionally prosperous days is the daily need and desire of all senior citizens. Acting out emotions which give fulfilling promise to the start, middle and end of a day’s length needs to be our daily modus operendi. How to do that requires being alert to six signs.

The first: when you awake in the morning, check your full disposition, physical, emotional, mental. Allow for a moment or more of meditation. Sweep out the things you can’t do anything about. Focus on what will contribute to happiness, concord, tranquility and effective living of the day.

The second: Do exercises that will consume about half an hour. Choose those that enable your breathing, taking in full deep breaths, awaken your joints, start your heart pumping.  Here is the key to everything else kicking in and jump starting your system for a good day.

The third:Prepare a breakfast that is healthy, protein enriched and appropriate to your dietary needs. No shortcuts with instant breakfasts,
a cup of coffee and toast. Work out a daily morning breakfast that meets your body’s needs.

The fourth:Listen to your pets and walk them. Don’t delay until later. That is deadly to your daily regimen of exercise. No excuses or delays. If you have no pets, identify other signals, e.g. bike riding, power walks, running, etc.

The fifth: When you return home for the day, or during the course of the day, do not turn on the television or become captive to your computer. The signal here is to leave them both in the off position.

The sixth: Following an evening appropriate to your situation, be sure you allow for an ample night’s rest (sleep). Short changing rest is like all the rest, too little is not wise; too much allows for habits needing attention.

These six are not the only daily habits in need of attention, but they form the structure of your day, providing you with energy and a positive attitude with which to fill in the intervening time.
