Aging Health Issues

Seniors are at higher risk for a number of health issues associated with aging. We talk about them here today with the caveat that we are not medical professionals and do not offer medical advice. We encourage readers to discuss any health/medical concerns with your primary care physician.

These are some of the health conditions generally associated with aging:

  • glaucoma,
  • macular degeneration,
  • PSA of 4 or above,
  • intestinal disorders,
  • chronic pain,
  • dramatic (unintended) loss of weight,
  • chronic sinus condition,
  • knee and shoulder pain,
  • difficulty or painful urinating,
  • lumps where they don’t belong,
  • signs of heart irregularity,
  • obesity
  • and others peculiar to your own circumstances and condition.

If you find you have one or more of these conditions, or if you have other troubling conditions not listed here, it is time to see your primary physician to conduct a thorough examination and make necessary referrals.

Health Care Available for All

Delay is one of the worst things that can be done in the face of impending health threats. Some pride themselves in announcing not having seen a physician in years.  That is not a boast, it is carelessness and contradictory to a  healthy state of being.

An annual physical or a visit when certain conditions appear is the desired proactive behavior. Not knowing can lead to unhelpful anxiety which may further aggravate your situation.

The marvels of modern medicine are deserving of respect. While there may be no cure or means for specifically identifying the nature of your condition, it is the better part of wisdom to pay attention to those worrisome matters as they become apparent.

Under the Affordable Care Act, which kicks in on October 1, there will be less reason to put off making sure you and those in your care and keeping have appropriate attention paid to conditions that should be addressed.

Avoid spending unnecessary time and useless energy fighting an Act that is now recognized law. Invest in being sure that none of the above or others are threatening to your good health. If the American public looks after its health, all of us will benefit.
