Seniors: Coping with Worry

Dec 14th, 2009 | By Dr Jerry D Elrod | Category: Senior Moments Blog

One of the knowns about the holiday season is that it seems to create an epidemic of depression.  Sadly, suicide rates seem to soar.  Loneliness seems to be at an all time high.  Expectations for the ideal that the holiday season represents are often aggravated by genuinely felt despair and unmet dreams of sharing in a holiday so well configured through commercials and fantasy.

In view of that, SCJ is devoting its entire week to a series on” Coping with the Top Ten Worries of Seniors.”  It begins tomorrow and will be featured in a three part series on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.  It is not designed to create depression, but rather to call attention to those issues which seem to affect us, particularly at the holidays.  Friday’s column will summarize the week and we will return the following Monday to our regularly scheduled daily commentary.
