Inspiration for Seniors: If There Is One More Thing I Can Do Today…Oct 28th, 2010 | By Dr Jerry D Elrod | Category: Senior Moments Blog
If there is one more thing I can do today, I would like it to be something gentle, kind and generous, something inspirational for others. Who knows what tomorrow may bring? Who knows if tonight’s rest will be greeted with a sunny, happy morning? So, if there is one more thing I can do today, I would like it to be something that those closest to me can know considers them, embraces them, holds them with a love that is full and sincere and as lasting as the moment will allow it.
Too many days have passed from ordinary to only barely remembered. Too many of our life’s best moments have not been given the freedom to be expansive and exalting. Ordinary occasions can become extraordinary treasures.
Persons seen only for a brief glimpse and a too quick hello deserve more. That sensory moment when you had a thought that bordered on genius, needs to be captured and held and remembered. That smile that passed between you and another person, known or unknown, is a keepsake, treasure it. That breath of air that came coursing through your body with the crispness of a fall day, never to return, could be the breath in which you whisper “thank you for life.”
Maybe, just maybe, if you think about it for a while, everyday should be one in which you give thought to that one more thing you can do before it ends. Doing that every day is likely to add to life, give to others, make your own life full and complete and whole. That one more thing may be just the thing that makes the difference for one who is struggling with despair, needing only a touch of hope. That one thing may be you, your presence, your voice, your shared thought, your kind word. You may make all the difference someone else needs. Allow your heart to overflow with that “one more thing you can do today.”
