Imagine Yourself

Jun 2nd, 2009 | By Dr Jerry D Elrod | Category: Senior Moments Blog

Imagine yourself at  80 or 90.  Imagine your personality.  It won’t be the same as in years past.  Imagine your body.  There will be changes there too. Imagine your social circle.  Again, changed.  Imagine your habits, your health, your mind, your domicile.  More changes.  Imagine whether you have a partner or not.  Imagine your ability to handle day to day routines.  Imagine!

Imagine the world, what more will have changed requiring your accommodation?  Imagine your family, how they have grown older, how they have made their choices, how they live their lives. Imagine what you will have available to occupy your time, your mind, your spirit and your body.  Imagine!

Imagine how you will continue to find ways to involve yourself with others, how you will invite and encourage them to be involved with you.  Imagine how you will handle the things you can no longer do.  Imagine the need to consider other life styles, other living modes, other means for keeping you as busy and happy as possible at your age.

Imagine that your age is to your advantage.  Imagine that more medical discoveries have opened up opportunities which reduce the limits on your life.  Imagine that there are medications which head off the threat of Alzheimer’s and other debilitating diseases.  Imagine surgeries that are less invasive and more creative in addressing certain disabilities.  Imagine!

Imagine that travel will enable you to be near people you love and cherish.  Imagine not feeling alone and lonely.  Imagine a world in which activity will still be a viable day to day option.  Imagine!

The world of our imaginations offers us a universe of possibilities.  Giving up or giving in too soon will bring  on a  case of unhappy dread.  Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to keep imagining.
