Love Your Heart, Stay Healthy

As we age, we seniors need to take better care of ourselves. This infographic from Study Medicine Europe takes you through how you can care for your heart to ensure you stay happy and healthy for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, heart disease accounts for 1 in 3 deaths and claims 17.7 million lives every year.

Importance of a Healthy Heart

When functioning at its optimal level the heart shuttles 2,000 gallons of oxygen-rich blood through 60,000 miles of blood vessels. Another important factor to understand is the differences between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest is an electrical problem and can be deadlier; as if a person does not receive treatment within a few minutes they will die. Heart attacks are a circulation problem and, unlike with cardiac arrest, the heart will keep beating. The longer the person goes without treatment the greater the damage.

Even if you’re perfectly healthy, always get regular check-ups regardless. If you are following treatments for conditions that increase your risk of a heart attack, be sure to follow them vigilantly. Read through the infographic for more information.
