Laughing, Walking and Writing… a Senior’s Resolutions

Jan 3rd, 2010 | By | Category: For Senior Women

I really enjoy this time of the year. When I close the last page of the year, I feel like I’m opening a new book for the new year.

My friend asked me the other day what goals I had for the new year. “To be honest,” I told him, “I haven’t given it a lot of thought.” I’ve never been big on new year’s resolutions or goals for the new year because I’ve never kept any that I have made. However, I have three ‘things’ in mind that I would really like to accomplish this coming year. Perhaps if I write them down, make a public statement about them, share them ‘with the world’, and don’t call them goals, I might feel more accountable…maybe actually do them.

I want to laugh more…with my husband, with my family and my friends. I take life altogether too seriously too much of the time. “Loosen up, lighten up and laugh”…my new motto. I’m laughing at the thought…. Let the laughter flow I’m telling me.

I want a healthy body and I will begin by walking. I think I can do three half hour power walks weekly. I’m not absolutely certain what ‘power walking’ means…perhaps it means moving faster than my meander. I think that is where I shall start.

I would like to write this ‘blog’ weekly for the Senior Citizen Journal. I’ve put off writing any thoughts since Dec 16. I’ve given consideration to quitting altogether; I’ve considered just letting this little piece of Senior Citizen Journal quietly die. But, I’m not getting younger and I need new challenges and new opportunities. This fills both those slots for me.

I can see the first two ‘New Year’s Things’ (laughing and exercising) getting accomplished in this third ‘thing’ (writing). I’m already laughing at myself and the brain exercise could be as great as a good power walk!
